Lesson 2B - Computer tricks for scrapbooking with Microsoft WORD

Computer Tricks you can use with Microsoft WORD
We can use our computers for lots of different things to help us with our journaling, titles or inserting pictures.
First of all we can use text boxes in WORD to create a box of journaling to fit into a certain space. Here is how you do it.
1. Open a new Microsoft WORD document
2. Go to INSERT -> TEXTBOX
3. You will then have to drag a box onto the screen (not in the drawing box)
4. Use the guides on the top and bottom to change the size of the box to what size you need.
5. You type in your journaling with all the text.
6. Change your fonts, font size and other formatting until you get it the way you want it.
There are also different things we can do for titles or adding graphics in WORDART. Here is how you can do that.
1. Open a new Microsoft WORD document
2. Go to INSERT -> PICTURE -> WORDART
3. Select your style.
4. Type in your text and change your font/size and then click OK.
5. To edit the text, make sure you are clicked on the box and then you right click and use EDIT TEXT.
There are some additional formatting that you may need to do from here for both WORDART and TEXTBOXES.
1. To get rid of the black box around the edges right click on the box and select FORMAT TEXTBOX/WORDART. Then change the line colour to NO LINE and the fill colour to NO FILL (this allows you to overlap textboxes without the white being ontop of the other one).
2. To be able to move the box where you want on the page you have to use the LAYOUT tab in FORMAT TEXTBOX and change it to TIGHT (this will help you if you want to overlap words).
Now we can overlap textboxes by using two or more textboxes. You must have all the formatting completed in the above step to get it to work. You may also need to use the BEHIND TEXT or IN FRONT OF TEXT options in the FORMAT TEXTBOX -> LAYOUT section.
If you are using the FORMAT WORDART you can also get the text to go in shapes. The one mostly used would be a circle. Here is how you can do this.
1. Create your text in WORDART as above.
2. Click on the WORDART box and there should be a toolbar that comes up somewhere on the screen.
3. Find the WORDART Shapes and find a shape that will work (for a circle use the outline of a circle).
4. Click on the corners and drag the box bigger or smaller until you get it the size you want.
We can also use WORDART to handcut some titles out of paper. We will cover this later in the course.
There are many fonts you can download from the internet as well and many of them are free. If you want to learn how to do this then ask me. I will not cover this in class as some parents may get mad as it requires installing things on your computer.
